TELL LAUSD: It’s time to adopt
the People’s Plan for Police-Free Schools.
OUR community-informed and community-created plan.
“From Criminalization to Education: A Community Vision for Safe Schools in LAUSD”
Our report represents a community-led vision for transforming LAUSD's schools into culturally relevant, holistically supportive spaces, where all youth can thrive.
Specifically, our report demands that LAUSD dismantle all of its oppressive and white supremacist structures-including the Los Angeles School Police Department-and that the district train and invest in evidence-based and community-centered practices that support, rather than criminalize, Black and Brown youth.
“LAUSD underestimates the parents. We come with a lot of skills. We are not just parents, we have intelligence that we are able to offer the school, too. Only until schools open up to the idea of that, will LAUSD become successful as a school community.”

Susan Miller Dorsey High School
Susan Miller Dorsey High School is an example of what is possible when a school is free of police and has an investment of resources into services for Black students.
As a BSAP Group 1 School, it has received additional Academic & Career Counselors, Psychiatric Social Workers, Restorative Justice Teacher(s), School Climate Advocates, AP African American Studies courses, and more.
Dorsey has also become a true Community School with a dedicated Community Schools Coordinator who helps to get buy-in from students, parents, community, and staff. One way that community has been empowered to support the campus is through Dorsey’s “Safe Passage” program, where community members help ensure that students are safe on the way to and from school.
